How a single Australian could win an ‘eyewatering’ $1.5BILLION in mega lotto draw

An $AUD1.5billion windfall could fall into the hands of an Aussie punter in a US mega lotto draw.

The US Mega Millions $1.1billion draw saw no big winners last Saturday so it has upped the ante, with Australian lotto players having until 12pm sharp AEDT on Wednesday to get in on the action. 

Those wanting a punt can do so via the Lottery Office, which will put them in the running for the biggest winnings the country has ever seen.

Lottery Office CEO Jaclyn Wood told 7News the jackpot draw is a great opportunity for Australians to become extraordinarily wealthy.

‘If an Aussie was to win this jackpot they would become Australia’s biggest ever lottery winner,’ Ms Wood said. 

‘This amount is eyewatering, and I am sure I could speak for many when I say we hope an Aussie can take a slice of it.’

The game works locally with the Lottery Office buys matching tickets from the Mega Millions game in the US on behalf of Australians contestants.

Players pick five numbers from a pool of one to 70 and one number from a pool of one to 25.

To hit the big time contenders need to get all the five numbers right as well as the one from the mega ball. 

Australians will be able to choose their own numbers numbers for the third-biggest game in US lottery history or have them generated at random. 

They have an option to win a $25million jackpot as well, with eight minor prize divisions of up to $1.4million on offer. 

The Lottery Office said there is a one in 24 chance that any entry will win. 

The Mega Millions game will be drawn in the US on Tuesday, 11pm EST (Wednesday, 3pm AEDT).
