‘Sad times for the community and his loved ones. As a councillor and human being I send a heartfelt plea for peace.’

A member of the community in St Pauls also told Bristol Live: ‘This was a lad who was very loved here, everybody knew him liked him. The whole community is in absolute shock, people are very upset, saying “no, not him”.’

Avon and Somerset Police have now launched an investigation into the incident, with a cordon remaining in place at St Pauls.

Officers have not yet stated the nature of injuries sustained or any details about what took place last night.

As of this morning, the arrested teenager continued to be in police custody but it remains unclear what he was arrested on suspicion of.

A police spokesman said: ‘Police were called after a man was found with injuries on Grosvenor Road, St Paul’s, Bristol, just after 11pm on Friday 21 July. The man was taken to hospital by ambulance and, sadly, has died.

‘While no formal identification has taken place, he’s believed to be in his late teens and from Bristol. His immediate family are aware and have our deepest sympathy. They will be supported by specially-trained family liaison officers.

‘A man, also in his late teens, has been arrested and remains in police custody at this time. We’re very grateful to the community for their support to the officers who attended this tragic incident.
