Woman’s body is found in London alleyway: Neighbours hear ‘screaming in the middle of the night’ as police launch probe into death

Police have launched a probe into the death of a woman after her body was found in a London alleyway.

The woman, whose identity is not yet known, was found ‘unresponsive’ on Grange Road, Tottenham, at 1.08pm on Sunday 2 April.

She was later pronounced dead at the scene, which was on a long alleyway behind a mix of homes and warehouses.

Neighbours reported hearing ‘screaming’ in the early hours of the morning, describing it as though a man and a woman were ‘arguing very loudly’.

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson told MailOnline: ‘Police were called at 13:08hrs on Sunday, 2 April to Grange Road, N17 following reports of an unresponsive woman at the location.

‘Officers and medics from the London Ambulance Service attended and the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

‘Enquiries are ongoing to establish her identity and next of kin.

‘The death is currently being treated at unexpected and is under investigation. No arrests, enquiries continue.’

One neighbour told the Evening Standard: ‘It is so sad. I think someone was killed. We heard screaming in the early morning it sounded like a man and woman arguing very loudly. I thought it was a husband and wife arguing so I tried to ignore them.

‘I pressed stop on my film and heard them have another conflict. My mother heard the same thing.’

Another neighbour told the publication that they saw the woman’s body being ‘pulled out on a stretcher’ at ‘about 10pm on Sunday’. 

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson told the paper: ‘We were called at 1.10pm yesterday (2 April) to reports of an incident near Grange Road, Tottenham.

‘We sent a number of resources to the scene, including an ambulance crew, a medic in a fast response car, an incident response officer and a clinical team manager.

‘Sadly, despite the best efforts of our crews, a person was pronounced dead at the scene.’
