Katy Perry is known as one of the best-selling music artists of all time, with over 143 million units sold.
However, her latest single ‘Woman’s World’ hasn’t been received well by fans.
The single is the first she has released in two years – with Perry also announcing a new album coming out on September 20th.
Most of the backlash doesn’t actually stem from the song itself, but the man who helped produce it – Lukasz Gottwald aka Dr. Luke.
Dr. Luke has faced multiple allegations, and in late 2014 was sued by Kesha for a number of reasons including sexual assault and battery, emotional abuse, sexual harassment and more.
Although Dr. Luke has denied all claims, Perry’s fans are still disappointed with the involvement in her new song.
With the music video now on YouTube, some commenters had much to say about the matter.
“Working with Dr. Luke on a feminist anthem has to be one of the most insane choices ever.”
Others are displeased over the video not particularly feeling like an empowering anthem for women.
“Why is this entire video designed for the male gaze?”
The video itself shows Perry in a Rosie The Riveter-inspired outfit on a construction site, and follows the theme of many of her previous music videos like ‘California Girls’ and ‘Part of Me’.
Although receiving mixed reviews, many of her fans still loved her new song, and are beyond excited for her new album ‘143′ which stands for ‘I love you’.
Some commenters are reminding us of her pop star status: “She’s a diva she’s a popstar she’s everything.”
