In September 2013, he took on the role of New Zealand’s High Commissioner to Fiji on a temporary basis, and in November 2014, he was officially appointed to the position.
Later, Ramsden was assigned as the Ambassador of New Zealand to Ethiopia and the African Union, with his base in Addis Ababa.
Additionally, he serves as the divisional manager for the Pacific Melanesia and Micronesia Division, handling important responsibilities in that role.
Ramsden also has experience working as a senior policy officer in the Human Rights Division and has served as the Deputy High Commissioner in both Port Moresby and Port Vila.
Margot Szamier, Maia Ramsden’s mother, is an expert in social research, evaluation, and gender-related matters.
She specializes in designing and planning programs, conducting gender analysis, and evaluating various projects and initiatives.
Margot earned a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from St. Michael’s College in Burlington, Vermont, and a Master’s degree in International and Intercultural Management from the SIT Graduate Institute in Brattleboro, Vermont.
