Rashard Wright, who played football for Byrnes High School, has passed away.

He died on Saturday, July 8, 2023, in a shooting at the Culpepper Landing Apartments in Spartanburg County.

Similarly, the incident happened at an apartment complex in Duncan, and sadly, an 18-year-old person lost their life. They were pronounced dead at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

He had a great passion for football and played as a starter for three years. He was a captain and the leader of our defense last year. Additionally, he deeply cared for his teammates and enjoyed spending time with them.”

His love for the sport continued even after high school. “He was looking forward to going to Benedict College. He and another teammate were in a room together and were excited about leaving the following week.”

The news of Rashard Wright’s death has saddened everyone who knew him. Rashard, a football player for Byrnes High School, strongly influenced his teammates, coaches, and the whole school community.

He will be greatly missed because he contributed essential to the team and was a great leader. His dedication and talent left a lasting impression on all of us who had the privilege of seeing him play.

Mary Wright, the aunt of Rashard Wright, has organized a GoFundMe page to support his family during this challenging time.

The page has already received generous contributions totaling $15,531 out of the $20,000 goal. Currently, a total of 297 individuals have donated.

In her message on the GoFundMe page, Mary Wright explains that they are contacting the public for assistance in covering the unexpected expenses of Rashard’s burial.

Rashard, who was only 18 years old and had recently graduated from Byrnes High School, had good plans for his future. He was preparing to attend Benedict College to pursue his passion for football and his education.

Mary further explains that Rashard’s father had recently changed jobs, and unfortunately, their insurance coverage had not yet been adequate.

This has placed an additional financial burden on the family. Mary humbly asks for any donations that individuals can contribute, along with prayers, to help ensure a proper burial for Rashard.

She emphasizes how loved Rashard was by many and how much he cherished life. The premature loss of Rashard has left their family deeply saddened.

Mary requests prayers for the difficult days ahead and expresses gratitude for their continued support and prayers during this challenging time.
