Remembering Deverin King: The Tragic Accident That Took the Life of an 18-Year-Old Evangel Athlete: On Thursday the Springfield community was shocked by the tragic news of the death of Deverin King an 18-year-old student at Evangel University.
Deverin a talented athlete and a friendly kind person lost his life in a motorcycle accident at the corner of Glenstone and Chestnut.
The incident has left his family friends fellow students and faculty members at Evangel University devastated and heartbroken.
The Accident: What Happened?
According to the Springfield, police report the accident occurred at 3:08 p.m. on Thursday when an SUV and a motorcycle collided on Glenstone Avenue south of Chestnut Expressway.
Deverin was driving his 2005 Yamaha motorcycle in a southerly direction on Glenstone Avenue when he crashed into an orange 2004 Ford Explorer Sport, which was being driven by Villalobos Chico, a 50-year-old resident of Springfield.
Chico, who was the only person in the SUV at the time of the accident, did not sustain any injuries.
Despite efforts to save Deverin’s life, he passed away at the accident scene. The investigation into the incident is still ongoing, but there are currently no indications of impairment as a contributing factor in the crash.

Upon learning of Deverin’s passing, Shem Johnson, who coached Deverin in track and football during high school, expressed shock and disbelief.
Johnson and Deverin had a strong bond and were close friends, with Johnson even considering Deverin as his son. Johnson stated that Deverin had lived a life that was already exemplary and couldn’t be improved upon.
He also mentioned that Deverin had a strong commitment to his family and friends, and was always available to support them.
Deverin’s death has left a void in the lives of those who knew him and the outpouring of support and grief from the community has been overwhelming.
