Early in the 1990s, Thomas Mulcahy and Anthony Marrero were the victims of a horrifying crime. Staten Island nurse Richard Rogers Jr. met his victims at Manhattan homosexual clubs.

Unsettlingly, Rogers murdered the victims, then dismembered their bodies and put the pieces in green garbage bags. The reason for these terrible killings is still unknown.

This callous act of violence regrettably ended the life of Thomas Mulcahy. Even though not much is known about his past or personal life

After her father was slain, Mulcahy’s daughter Tracey O’Shea, then 18 years old, writes in Last Call that her father was peaceful, compassionate, and hilarious “in a weird kind of manner.”

He seemed different from other parents, but not significantly, she recalled.

Mulcahy traveled to New York on July 7, 1992, on business. According to authorities, he delivered a presentation at the World Trade Center, consumed some alcohol at Market Street Bar, and then arrived at the Townhouse.

Former New Jersey State Police Detective Nicholas Theodos recalls, “Sometimes he went for male companionship,” adding that Mulcahy’s murder was the first case that brought him into intimate touch with the LGBT community.

The seasoned homicide detective had previously worked on the Green River and Jeffrey Dahmer serial murder cases, according to Green’s Final Call.)

Remembering Thomas Mulcahy and his life as we consider this terrible incident is essential to ensuring that acts of violence and prejudice are not tolerated in our society.

In a presentencing statement, she provided to the judge, Mulcahy’s daughter Tracey referred to her father as “a wonderful man who worked hard, and he deserved the best from life.” That, in my opinion, made Richard Rogers’ actions all the more terrible.

Via the use of fingerprints discovered on the bags holding the victims’ bodies, Richard Rogers Jr. was ultimately recognized as the criminal. The probe included many states, including Rockland County, New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania.

Rogers was detained in 2001 and later found guilty of killing Thomas Mulcahy and Anthony Marrero. Two consecutive life sentences for Rogers serve as a reminder of the seriousness of his actions.

Thomas Mulcahy Murder Cause: Who was the Last Call Killer?

When he was caught for the killings of Mulcahy and Marrero in 2001, Richard W. Rogers Jr., a 50-year-old registered nurse working in the cardiac care unit at NYC’s Mount Sinai Hospital, where he had been employed since 1979, was serving two consecutive life terms in New Jersey.

While there were already some unsettling similarities between the Last Call killings and Jeffrey Dahmer’s murder of at least 17 men and boys, mostly between 1987 and 1991.

Rogers had also been detained on suspicion of harming someone years before he was ultimately apprehended, just like Dahmer (who found many of his victims within Milwaukee’s queer community).

Rogers was charged in 1988 with drugging, tying up, and injuring a 47-year-old man in his apartment, the Staten Island Advance reported in 2001 after his arrest.

This was fifteen years after he was cleared of killing a fellow graduate student at the University of Maine with a hammer and disposing of his body by the side of the road. In a nonjury trial, he was found not guilty.
