Junkyard Dog Daughter LaToya Ritter was raised in a wrestling home and saw firsthand her father’s influence on the wrestling world.

Sylvester Ritter was a professional wrestler and collegiate football player best known as the Junkyard Dog in Mid-South Wrestling and the World Wrestling Federation, a moniker he earned while performing labor at a junkyard. In 2004, he was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame.

JYD was best renowned for his headbutt and upper body power, which allowed him to consistently bodyslam big wrestlers like the One Man Gang, Kamala, and King Kong Bundy.

When JYD entered the ring to the tune of Queen’s “Another One Bites the Dust,” he became “the first black wrestler to be made the undisputed top star of his promotion.”

Regardless of LaToya’s personal or professional life, her relationship to her father’s history is remarkable. Being the daughter of a great wrestler has its weight, and LaToya Ritter is undoubtedly proud of her father’s achievements in the sport.

However, on October 19, 2011, she was walking down the stairs of her house while chatting on the phone when she collapsed and died.

She was just 31 years old. The Ritter family’s sadness was exacerbated by the fact that she was a perfectly healthy young woman.

A Junkyard Dog retrospective was released some years later on the wrestling website Pro Wrestling Tales.

It stated Latoya’s death and how no news on the cause had been released. A Ritter family friend clarified: “I just wanted to let you know that Latoya died from a heart attack.

A pro wrestling lifestyle can be demanding on a marriage, and according to Wrestling Observer, Junkyard Dog’s two marriages hit rock bottom so severely that one featured an abduction and a gunshot.

While there is little information regarding Junkyard Dog’s personal life, it is known that he was married to Jacqueline “Jay” Roney.

Sadly, there isn’t much information regarding Jacqueline Roney or her time with Junkyard Dog.

The specifics of his first divorce are murky, but his rigorous travel schedule appears to have played a significant role.

The narrative, however, concludes with a sad epilogue. His wife suffered from mental health concerns and spent time in a mental hospital before kidnapping Junkyard Dog’s parents.

On his search for his daughter, the wrestler stormed through the door of his ex-house, his wife’s brother’s and the resulting brawl resulted in the brother — a police officer — sustaining an unintentional gunshot wound.

Sylvester Ritter was born on December 13, 1952, and began a career leading to him being one of the most dynamic and renowned wrestlers of his day.
