However, two weeks before the 2010 Pan American Judo Championships, she felt pain in her left knee after training and went to see a doctor. The doctor told her that she had torn her ACL.
Yuri Alvear won a bronze medal at the Olympics in London in 2012 by beating Cheng Fei from China. This was the first Olympic medal in judo for Colombia. She came back to the Olympics in Rio in 2016 and won a silver medal. With this second medal, she became the fifth Colombian athlete to win two Olympic medals.
