Former Middlesbrough midfielder Robbie Mustoe thinks one Premier League player should join Chelsea in the summer.

Brentford striker Ivan Toney looks likely to leave Brentford at the end of the season, with HITC reporting that the Bees could be ready to sell him for £50–60m.

And Mustoe, speaking on The 2 Robbies podcast, believes Chelsea and the 27-year-old could be a match made in heaven.

Toney has only made four appearances in the Premier League this season, having just returned from a long suspension. However, he has managed to make a huge impact in them.

The England international has picked up right from where he left off last term, scoring three goals in his four league outings so far.

Chelsea the right fit for Ivan Toney

Mustoe is convinced that Chelsea and Toney could be a great match.

“I think Chelsea is the fit,” he said. “I think Chelsea is the fit for him. Remember, if it’s going to be this summer, he’s in the last year of his contract, so with one year left, £60m.

“He is a Chelsea-type player for me. And we’ve seen Diego Costa, we’ve seen Drogba, we’ve seen aggressive, maverick centre-forwards.”

Ivan Toney should move to Chelsea

If Toney does get the chance to join Chelsea, then he should probably take it.

It is true, they are perhaps not the powerhouse they once were, with the club almost certain to miss out on Champions League football again next season.

However, the Blues are still competing for trophies, reaching the Carabao Cup final, while Toney should also be able to get a big pay cheque there.

Of course, interest from another club like Arsenal, for example, changes things. But if it is a choice between joining Chelsea or staying at Brentford, then he has to choose the former.

Tony Cascarino recently highlighted one thing that he really likes about the former Peterborough United man.
