Chelsea’s Malo Gusto claims he simply loves playing alongside Thiago Silva.

We suspect most of the Blues squad would say something similar, too!

Malo Gusto, who’s just 20, is one of the big success stories at Chelsea during a pretty underwhelming season so far.

The young French right-back is proving to be an answer for now and the future with his exceptional talent.

On the other side of the spectrum, Blues veteran Thiago Silva is a 39-year-old centre-back surely coming towards the backend of his glittering career.

In fairness, the £96,000-a-week defender (Salary Sport) has still performed well this campaign, but his contract at Stamford Bridge expires this summer. Speaking on The Here We Go Podcast last month, journalist Fabrizio Romano reported that Silva doesn’t expect to get another contract extension from Chelsea.

Gusto has paid tribute to the Chelsea star he really enjoys playing with.

When discussing Blues teammate Silva, Gusto said via Chelsea’s official website: “He is a legend – he is like my dad! He has helped the team a lot because he has very good experience – a lot of football in great competitions. It’s a pleasure to play with him at Chelsea.

“When I make a mistake, he tells me like my dad but that has helped me a lot. He helps with the small details and I think football is about the small details.

“At a good team like Chelsea, you have to speak a lot and that is what he has tried to tell me, Axel [Disasi], [Ben] Chilwell and Levi [Colwill] as well. He has tried to push us and he does this really well.”

It would be foolish for any of Chelsea’s youngsters not to try tap into the incredible fountain of experience that Silva possesses.

We do worry about the size of the hole he’ll leave in the dressing room if he exits this summer.

Remarkably, 29-year-old Raheem Sterling would have to step forward as the real senior figure with the bags of experience.
