The future of Conor Gallagher is something that’s been on the mind of every Chelsea supporter for a while now.

There’s been a lot of talk in the media this year regarding what will happen with Blues midfielder Conor Gallagher, whose current deal at Stamford Bridge is due to expire at the end of next season.

Speaking via The Overlap this month, Jamie Carragher told Chelsea they simply shouldn’t sell Gallagher this summer just to help with any financial hole they may find themselves in.

Now, well-respected journalist Simon Phillips has provided an update on the Gallagher situation.

Phillips has shared via his Substack today that Chelsea are still yet to engage in any official contract conversations with Gallagher.

He’s been told that anything could still happen with the 24-year-old this summer.

Phillips said on Gallagher: “A source has said that his Chelsea future remains 50/50 at this point and anything can still happen, with talks expected to happen towards the end of the season.”

In addition, the journalist explained that Chelsea’s current wish is to sell Gallagher at the end of the season, but a new deal hasn’t been ruled out yet.

Apparently, the Blues are in a position where they’d have no hesitation selling their academy graduate for a decent fee because his sale would generate pure profit.

Phillips has been informed Gallagher really hopes to stay with his boyhood club and wants an increase in wages, but he’s not asking for anything extortionate.

Chelsea fans can start to worry now

This certainly isn’t the type of Gallagher update most Chelsea fans wanted.

A 50/50 chance of keeping the Blues central midfielder is beyond alarming!

We’ll try remain positive and hope the club see sense to keep the ever improving Gallagher, but the report above suggests any good offer will be enough to take him away from Stamford Bridge.

If we were a Premier League rival, we’d be all over a move to sign the box-to-box midfielder.

GiveMeSport recently claimed that inside sources at Chelsea believe they may not receive anything higher than £30m for Gallagher. If he goes for around the £30m mark, the owners have only got themselves to blame for some really poor work in recent transfer windows.
