Ajax released a heartwarming video of Jurrien Timber soon after his move to Arsenal was confirmed.
The defender has finally completed a long-awaited £40million transfer to the Gunners.
Timber provides added depth to an Arsenal defence that came close to winning the Premier League title last season.
He is set to compete with Gabriel and William Saliba for a starting spot at centre-back, but he can also play at right-back.
Mikel Arteta’s new signing leaves Ajax after spending nearly a decade at the Dutch giants.
He rose through their academy into the first-team, and it seems as though he knew he’d end up at Arsenal all along.
In a video posted by Ajax on Twitter, a young Timber was asked about where he saw himself in five years time.
“Already in Ajax’s first team,” he said. “Or at the top of Ajax. Or, I just left to England or Spain.”
When questioned about the club he’d like to join, Timber replied: “I’ve always been a fan of Arsenal.”
His dream has now come true, with the 22-year-old now set to play for one of the biggest clubs in English football.
Timber snubbed a move to rivals Manchester United last summer but made a switch to the Premier League this time round with one year left on his deal.
He is Arsenal’s second arrival of the summer so far after Kai Havertz joined from Chelsea.
Declan Rice looks set to be the Gunners’ third signing of the window as they look to mount another Premier League title challenge.
