England have been dealt another worrying blow ahead of the Women’s World Cup with Alex Greenwood picking up an injury in training.
The Lionesses recently met up at St George’s Park to prepare for next month’s tournament in Australia and New Zealand.
However, disaster struck in an open training session when during a small-sided game, Greenwood went in for a 50-50 tackle against Georgia Stanway and was left in a heap on the floor as she clutched her left leg.
Her teammates rushed to see if she was okay, before she received treatment from the medical department.
Greenwood was then able to get back to her feet as she limped to the bench on the side of the pitch and out of the training session.
The Manchester City defender was then seen applying ice to the bleeding leg, before making her way back inside at St George’s Park.
While the severity of the injury remains unclear, the knock to the 29-year-old will be a big concern for Sarina Wiegman.
England are already without star players Leah Williamson and Beth Mead with both Arsenal stars suffered anterior cruciate ligament injuries.
Chelsea’s Fran Kirby has also undergone knee surgery, meaning that she’ll also miss the World Cup.
