Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez had a huge rise to fame after previously winning the World Cup with Argentina, so it’s a special occasion whenever he travels to represent his country.
He’s just played 45 minutes as Argentina beat El Salvador 3-0 in a friendly match during the early hours of Saturday morning.
Enzo Fernandez, who’s still only aged 23, has had an up and down season so far in Chelsea colours. That’s very much been the pattern for his club side, though.
Unfortunately, WhoScored data recently named Chelsea’s Fernandez in their Premier League XI of players who are underperforming their xG the worst this campaign.
He does usually turn into a different animal when he’s playing for his country, though.
Fernandez, who played the first-half against El Salvador before being substituted off, did manage to make his mark on the contest.
The central midfielder scored his fourth ever goal for South American giants Argentina, which was a simple tap in into an unguarded net.

He received a positive reaction from the Argentine national media after his weekend display.
TyC Sports wrote: “Enzo Fernandez: 6 /10. They gave him the ball little. He played simply and without complicating things. He [didn’t] come out at half-time after scoring his goal.”
Similarly, media in England really enjoyed the Blues star’s international performance.
GOAL posted: “Enzo Fernandez (8/10): Put on a passing clinic, scored a goal and was subbed off at halftime. The Chelsea midfielder did everything Scaloni wanted and more in his 45-minute showing.”
We want Enzo Fernandez to enjoy Chelsea like he does Argentina
There’s certainly pressure whether you’re representing Argentina or playing for Chelsea, but it looks like Fernandez deals with the former a bit better.
On top of the pressure on all Chelsea stars, Fernandez has his huge £106.8m price tag (Sky Sports) on his back.
He’s done some great things during his 14 months at Stamford Bridge and is certainly not one of the team’s big issues, but we do think the talented youngster can do more and become more influential.
Let’s see more of Fernandez’s range of passing, especially through balls and switches of play. Also, the South American star can score more, despite posting a decent tally of seven Chelsea goals so far this season.
