It is not hard to tell who Ian Wright’s favourite Chelsea player is right now.

The Arsenal legend has been praising Cole Palmer, comparing him to someone who used to play for the Gunners.

Palmer has received a lot of plaudits this season, which should not come as a surprise.

Chelsea have not had the best campaign, with the Blues missing out on Champions League qualification, but that has not prevented the 22-year-old from performing.

In 43 appearances for Chelsea, Palmer has scored 24 goals and provided 14 assists. Club captain Reece James recently hailed his teammate as “one of the best” players in the world.

Ian Wright makes interesting Cole Palmer comparison

Wright says it has been beautiful to watch Palmer this season.

He has even compared the attacker to former Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil, who has been described as “dangerous” in the past by Arsene Wenger.

Discussing Chelsea and Palmer on his podcast Wrighty’s House, Wright said: “There is something about Chelsea I like watching because there is a chaoticness to their players who are really good, and every now and then you watch Cole Palmer just do something people don’t notice.

“It’s just great quality, class and beautiful. It’s like watching Mesut Ozil or watching Paul Pogba, they just do something that is just beautiful. It’s just a beautiful thing to watch.”

Chelsea’s Mesut Ozil

Like Ozil so often did in his career, Palmer has provided plenty of assists this season.

Out of his 14 recorded, 10 of those have come in the Premier League. Having also scored 21 goals, it means Palmer has come up with 31 goal contributions in 31 games for Chelsea. It is a mental return.

The kind of playmaking the Englishman has shown in the current campaign, Ozil would be proud of it.

If Palmer can keep it up next season and the rest of the Chelsea team up their game, there is no reason why Mauricio Pochettino‘s side cannot qualify for the Champions League.
