Premier League stars are known for having some of the best fitness in world football due to the intensity of the league.

Bruno Fernandes covered the most distance at Manchester United this season, but a potential newcomer at Arsenal ran even further.

Declan Rice once again proved to be a driving force at the heart of the West Ham midfield over the past year.

His qualities have been clear to see for some time now and he appears to be set to make the next step in his career.

talkSPORT were told last week by West Ham chairman David Sullivan that Rice has played his final game for the club.

Arsenal are now willing to break the British transfer record to sign him up this summer, a move that would be a statement signing.

Given his efforts, a transfer would most certainly be worth the fee after the emergence of a recent statistic from this season.

Fernandes ran 402.5km across his 37 appearances in the Premier League, and while that made him United’s marathon man, it put him sixth.

Rice managed to run 412.9km, with the 24-year-old covering more ground in the same number of appearances as Fernandes to put him third.

Brighton’s Pascal Gross with 418.9km, and Southampton star James Ward-Prowse leads the way on 433.4km.

The West Ham captain certainly has an impressive level of fitness and it was most likely a key factor in keeping the Hammers in the Premier League.

Rice also enjoyed his most successful campaign in terms of goal contributions as he scored four and assisted a further two.

Arsenal came so close to winning the league but ultimately fell short against now treble winners Manchester City.

However, the addition of Rice could help lead them to top flight champion status for the first time since 2004.

His ability to run for immense distances certainly adds to his value as he gets set to embark on a new chapter in what could potentially be a trophy laden career.
