Manchester City goalkeeper James Trafford is in advanced talks over a £19million move to Burnley, talkSPORT understands.
Trafford has been one of the stars of England’s run to the semi-finals of the Under-21 European Championship.
City are open to selling Trafford with the option of a buy-back clause inserted into the deal.
Vincent Kompany guided the Clarets back to the top flight at the first time of asking as they romped to the Championship title last season.
He’s already added to his squad in signing defenders Jordan Beyer and Dara O’Shea as well as goalkeeper Lawrence Vigouroux.
But Kompany is looking towards his former club in Trafford, who’s been on City’s books since he was 12 years old.
Now aged 20, Trafford has been on loan at Accrington Stanley and Bolton since signing a pro contract with the Premier League champions in 2021.
But it’s been during the Under-21 European Championship where he’s really caught the eye.
He’s been a safe pair of hands between the sticks for the Young Lions having yet to concede a goal in four matches but his ability with his feet has also been noticed. Trafford even got an assist for Harvey Elliott’s goal during England’s 2-0 win over Germany in the group stage.
Next up for England is a semi-final date with Israel on Wednesday, a match you can listen to live and exclusively on talkSPORT 2, kick-off 5pm.
