Journalist Christian Falk has stated that there is still talk about replacing Mauricio Pochettino as Chelsea manager.
This is despite his Blues side picking up a big win last night against Tottenham, winning 2-0 at Stamford Bridge.
Goals from Trevoh Chalobah and Nicolas Jackson either side of half-time were enough for a Chelsea side who looked dominant for much of the game despite their opponents being much higher in the table.
Pochettino will have been delighted with the performance mostly because his side picked itself off the back of the multiple injury issues that led to no senior outfield players being on the bench.
It has been reported in the past that qualifying for European football is a must for the boss, and even though this still looks a realistic possibility, talk has not gone away of replacing him.
Falk has stated to CaughtOffside now that he believes former Bayern Munich and Germany manager Hansi Flick is a serious candidate to take over.
Hansi Flick a strong candidate for Chelsea job
He said: “Hansi Flick is now a strong candidate for the Chelsea job. Flick would love to manage in the Premier League and is looking at the big six. He was talking with Tottenham before he was coaching the national team. This would be a club on his level.
“Chelsea is very interesting as he talked with the club after Frank Lampard was sacked; there was a telephone call between him and former director Marina Granovskaia. At this point, he was the treble-winning coach for Bayern (from the 2019/20 season) and he said no when the talks took place, in 2021, at the time because he was at the club. But he was interested in Chelsea.
“Now that they’re searching for another manager, and they know he’s interested, I think this topic can get hot.”
Flick has previously been widely reported to be a candidate of the new owners as well as the old ones, and looks as if he will be in the conversation again should a change be made.
Sacking Pochettino would be a mistake
He has a pretty good resume to fall back on from club football, with him in charge of Bayern when they won the Champions League in 2020.
However, with the improvements clear to see under Pochettino, it is clear to see that there is certainly an argument to keep hold of him right now.
It would also be a decision that is popular amongst the playing staff, with them universally fans of the boss.
