Chelsea have confirmed on Wednesday afternoon that one of their players has signed a new deal.

The Blues just announced that their youngster has penned a fresh contract to stay at Stamford Bridge.

There’s no doubt that the academy at Chelsea has played a crucial role for many years, providing a constant supply of future stars for the first-team squad.

It may be continuing this summer with the emergence of young talent Tyrique George, too. According to The Mirror in its print edition (21 July), Chelsea youngster George is making ‘huge strides’, which is why he’s gone on the pre-season tour of the United States.

Interestingly, one of George’s teammates from the Chelsea Under-21s team has just been rewarded with a new contract.

Jimmy-Jay Morgan signs new Chelsea deal

Chelsea have confirmed via their official website that Jimmy-Jay Morgan has agreed a new deal with them.

The 18-year-old English striker has signed a fresh contract that keeps him at the club until 2027.

Morgan was with Chelsea’s academy at the age of eight, but he left to join Southampton in 2017 and spent six years developing as a kid with the Saints.

He ended up going full circle by returning to the Blues in February 2023. In fact, The Athletic reported at the time that Chelsea paid an initial £3m to sign former prospect Morgan.

The centre-forward has now been rewarded with fresh terms this week as his development continues at Cobham.

Why to be excited about Jimmy-Jay Morgan

Morgan enjoyed a really encouraging 2023/24 season last year in Chelsea’s academy, featuring for both the U21s and U18s. Plus, he’s received a lot of praise over the years as a rising talent to watch out for.

During his Southampton days, his former coach previously waxed lyrical about the quality of his finishing. Louis Carey, the former Saints academy coach, described Morgan as one of the best finishers he’s seen at youth level.

Carey said in 2022, as quoted by the Daily Echo: “He (Morgan) can finish and the range of finishes is at the level we probably haven’t seen coming through the system for many years… I think he’s one of the best I’ve seen in my time here.”

Let’s hope that Morgan’s new Chelsea deal can act as a boost going into next season. It will be great if a maiden first-team call-up is just around the corner for the young attacker.
