Chelsea are already thinking about bringing in someone to replace one of their players this summer.
Chelsea loaned out several of their players in the January transfer window, including David Datro Fofana and Ian Maatsen.
The latter now looks unlikely to return and remain at Stamford Bridge, with Fabrizio Romano reporting on X that he could leave the club.
As a result, according to the Italian journalist, Chelsea are now looking at left-backs ahead of the summer transfer window.
Maatsen may very well end up departing Chelsea for good after signing a new contract with a £35m release clause, as reported by The Telegraph. The 22-year-old has admitted that he thought he would have played more under Mauricio Pochettino this season.
Chelsea looking at left-backs to replace Ian Maatsen
Chelsea need another left-back in their squad, so if Maatsen does depart Stamford Bridge for good in the summer, then he has to be replaced.
The Blues will still have Ben Chilwell, Marc Cucurella and Levi Colwill, which is more than enough on paper.

The problem is Chilwell cannot stay fit and Colwill is not even a left-back. It is also being reported that Cucurella could follow Maatsen out of the exit door when the transfer window reopens.
All of a sudden, then, Chelsea’s squad looks in desperate need of a new left-back.
In terms of who they could bring in, Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies has been linked with a move to Pochettino’s side. His contract expires in 2025, meaning that the German giants may be forced to sell him in the summer.
Ultimately, whether it is Davies or someone else, Chelsea need to buy a new left-back ahead of next season if Maatsen is sold. At this moment in time, Chilwell is just not a reliable option for the Blues, while Cucurella’s future at the club looks to be in doubt.
