Chelsea could regret not signing one striker this summer.

The Blues are in the market for a new centre-forward as they look to bring in competition for Nicolas Jackson.

Jackson was Chelsea’s first-choice No.9 last season and did not have too much support. In total, he made 44 appearances under then manager Mauricio Pochettino.

Chelsea are now being linked with several strikers, including Lille’s Jonathan David.

However, one man who they will not be signing is Stuttgart’s Serhou Guirassy.

Chelsea were interested in centre-forward

Guirassy has caught the attention of many clubs in Europe after an excellent 2023/24 campaign.

For Stuttgart, the 28-year-old scored an impressive 30 goals in 30 appearances.

Chelsea were one side who were thought to be interested in him.

However, according to HITC, while the Blues did consider signing Guirassy because of his low £16m price tag, they never made an offer for him in the end.

The same outlet claims that Guirassy is now set to move to Borussia Dortmund after agreeing to join the German club.

Why did Chelsea not make an offer for Serhou Guirassy?

Guirassy’s goal record from last season makes him a really attractive proposition.

The Guinea international looks like a really dangerous forward, with his teammate Chris Fuhrich describing him as “incredible”.

At 28 years of age, though, Guirassy does not fit Chelsea’s transfer strategy.

Of late, the Blues have mostly been signing young players, such as Estevao Willian. Had Guirassy been a bit younger, they probably would have made a bid for him.

So far, it is a transfer strategy that has not really worked. Chelsea have a very young and inexperienced squad that finished outside of the top four last term.

In the future, though, if the likes of Estevao and Kendry Paez, for example, go on to fulfil their potential, then maybe Chelsea will get back to where they once were.

Supporters, however, are not going to want to wait around forever as the club hopes for a bunch of teenagers to develop into world-beaters.
