Top journalist David Ornstein has claimed that Chelsea were recently left stunned by developments in one transfer they were and still are heavily involved in.

The Blues have found that they have managed to get their own way when it comes to transfers pretty much ever since Todd Boehly took over as new owner two years ago.

Despite the fact performances and results on the pitch under the likes of Mauricio Pochettino and Graham Potter have not been up to scratch, it has so far not had an impact on their ability to attract some of the biggest names in football.

Despite having an agreement in place to bring the player in via Strasbourg, however that quickly changed.

It was later reported that Wolves had hijacked the move, with Ornstein now telling The Athletic’s Podcast that they were left stunned by what happened late in the tale.

He said: “Let’s see if Chelsea come back in and offer to increase the terms. I’d be a little bit surprised because if you’ve got your deal in place already, and then somebody comes in and goes on to for a player at this level does it leave a bit of a bad taste?

“Let’s see what the coming days bring. Let’s see how it finishes but certainly, that was a twist that was a little bit unexpected when Recife released their statement.”

It has already been claimed that the Blues have moved their attention as far as a young right-back goes to Premier League youngster Wesley Okoduwa, who has been seen in top flight matchday squads since the age of 15.

As far as first team additions go, Chelsea seem to be prioritising the signing of Michael Olise, however face an uphill battle to get that one over the line.
