Chelsea played well in their 1-1 draw with Manchester City at the Etihad on Saturday.

Axel Disasi really stood out for Chelsea as he helped his side to take a point back to Stamford Bridge.

The Blues had to beat City’s rivals Manchester United to his signature and after his latest performance, they will be glad that they did.

According to L’Equipe, United were only one step away from signing Disasi before Chelsea eventually swooped in and landed the central defender.

Axel Disasi’s performance against Manchester City

Disasi was solid in the stalemate at the Etihad. He was always alert to the danger and was able to deal with it.

As per WhoScored, the Frenchman made a whopping 16 clearances, more than any other player on the pitch.

It was a game Disasi was really into and thriving in. He celebrated one bit of defending against Erling Haaland and Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher absolutely loved it.

If Disasi plays like that every game, then he is going to become undroppable.

Manchester United must regret not signing Axel Disasi

The centre-back position has been a bit of a nightmare for United this season.

Lisandro Martinez has picked up a couple of bad injuries, for example. Looking ahead, the Red Devils could also watch Raphael Varane depart next summer when his contract expires.

Disasi, then, could have been a really useful addition to their squad, especially considering how he is playing right now.

The France international was available for a good price as well, with Chelsea paying AS Monaco a £38.8m fee (Sky Sports) for his signature.

United’s loss is Chelsea’s gain, though, and Mauricio Pochettino will be delighted with what he is getting out of his central defender at present.

Following his display alongside Levi Colwill, ESPN pundit Steve Nicol has now urged Pochettino to persist with that centre-back pairing. Chelsea supporters could get to see it again on Sunday when the Blues take on Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final.
