As a result, De Gea will become a free agent on July 1, unless something promptly changes.

The 32-year-old looked set to stay at Man United this summer after agreeing terms on a new contract, however the club are yet to sign off on that deal.

Reports from The Athletic even suggested that the Red Devils had changed the terms after striking an agreement with De Gea, plunging his future into further doubt.

talkSPORT understands that De Gea rejected a lucrative move to Saudi Arabia in order to stay at Old Trafford, a deal that seems in real jeopardy.

In terms of performance, De Gea enjoyed a good 2022/23 season under Erik ten Hag having scooped up the Premier League Golden Glove award.

However, some high-profile mistakes led to further questions about his future at the club.

De Gea’s ability with his feet has been cited as another reason why he may not be a good fit in Ten Hag’s system.

This has led to links with Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana.

The Cameroonian goalkeeper is known for his ability with his feet, and his proclivity for moving forward with the ball.

And the fact he spent four and a half seasons under Ten Hag’s tutelage at Ajax is aloso a boon.
