Gary Neville thinks Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon had a very tough time against Chelsea last night.

Anthony Gordon had to be taken off in the first half because of injury, but the winger started his side’s 3-2 defeat at Stamford Bridge on the left, where he was tasked with helping Dan Burn defend against Cole Palmer and Malo Gusto.

Gary Neville, though, thought he really struggled against Gusto, who was a constant threat for Chelsea going forward. The Manchester United legend, speaking on Sky Sports (11/03/2024 at 20:12) during the game, felt that the right-back absolutely dominated Gordon.

Gusto helped Chelsea to take the lead after putting a ball into the box that Newcastle could not clear properly. It resulted in Palmer getting a shot away before Nicolas Jackson flicked the ball into the back of the Magpies’ net.

Neville has been impressed with Gusto in general, stating that he really likes the French youngster.

Malo Gusto dominated Anthony Gordon

Gordon tried to track back and support Burn, but Neville felt that he just could not cope with Gusto and Palmer.

Commentating on the game, the former defender said: “There’s quite a bit happening down that far side. Palmer’s getting involved a lot, Gusto involved a lot. He’s dominating Gordon in the early parts of this game.”

Malo Gusto proving to be one of the best attacking full-backs in the Premier League

Going forward, Gusto has quickly become one of the best full-backs in the country. In 20 Premier League appearances this season, the 20-year-old has managed to provide five assists.

Chelsea paid Lyon £30.7m to sign Gusto in a deal that can now only be described as an absolute bargain.

This season has not gone to plan for the Blues, who are still in 11th despite that win against Newcastle last night. Nevertheless, supporters have still been backing the team and Gusto recently expressed his appreciation.

Chelsea’s next game is against Leicester City in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup.
