It is fair to say that Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella had a lot of faith in his team-mate Mykhailo Mudryk last night.
Mykhailo Mudryk came on to score and put Chelsea 3-1 up against Newcastle United.
However, even before the winger had put the ball into the back of the net, Marc Cucurella had his arms raised in celebration, confident that Mudryk would convert after cutting through the Magpies’ defence. It was a moment picked up on by football.london.
Nicolas Jackson was the man who gave Chelsea the lead before Alexander Isak equalised. Cole Palmer then put the Blues back in front in the second half with a brilliant strike, which was then followed by Mudryk’s goal and Jacob Murphy’s rocket.
Cucurella was making his first start for Chelsea since December after recovering from ankle surgery. It has been reported that the left-back could be sold this summer.
Marc Cucurella and Mykhailo Mudryk have points to prove
There has also been talk about Mudryk potentially leaving Stamford Bridge at the end of the season, so the Ukrainian needs to take any opportunity he gets as well, which he did last night.
According to journalist Simon Phillips, Chelsea have thought about loaning Mudryk out in the summer.

If the 23-year-old can continue to make an impact from off the bench, though, perhaps he will end up winning a place in Mauricio Pochettino‘s starting XI and will not need to be loaned out.
As for Cucurella, another injury to Ben Chilwell has provided him with a great opportunity. If the Spaniard can stay in the team and play well from now to the end of the season, it is not impossible that he remains in west London either.
All in all, Cucurella and Mudryk are two Chelsea players to keep an eye on during this stage of the campaign. It could be a big few months for them.
