Several of Europe’s best young players with potentials through the roof will meet in Georgia and Romania over the next two and a half weeks to crown the greatest U21 national team in Europe.
Of the 16 nations taking part, seven of them are former winners of the premier youth tournament in European football.
Germany head into this summer’s tournament as the defending champions having lifted their third title back in 2021, defeating Portugal 1-0 in the final in Ljubljana, Slovenia.
Italy and Spain hold the record for the most U21 Euros titles, with five each, though the Italians haven’t lifted the trophy since 2004, while Spain have won three since then.
Some of the stars lighting up the competition this summer include Chelsea’s £60million man Mykhaylo Mudryk, AC Milan star Sandro Tonali and Aston Villa prospect Jacob Ramsey, to name just three.
Lee Carsley’s England side dominated their qualifying group to book their place in Georgia, winning eight of their 10 games, and have been draw into Group C alongside the Czech Republic, Israel and Germany.
England will be looking to put an end to a barren record in recent U21 Euros tournaments, in which they’ve been knocked out in the group stage in five of the last six tournaments.
The Spaniards are the favourites to pull clear of Italy and win their sixth title this summer, with 4/1 odds, though the trio of England, France and Germany are just behind at 5/1 each, and Italy slightly further back at 6/1.
