Chelsea defender Levi Colwill is an unreal passer of the football.

That is according to Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp.

Levi Colwill, who’s just 20, is a very important player in Chelsea’s first-team squad this season.

The England centre-back has impressed in Mauricio Pochettino’s Blues line-up this year, even during the times he’s covered out of position at left-back.

We saw last weekend why the academy graduate’s future is in the heart of defence, though.

During Chelsea’s 1-1 away draw at Manchester City last Saturday, Colwill and Axel Disasi produced a formidable centre-half partnership that has huge room to grow.

Redknapp really liked the defensive performance from Chelsea at the Etihad Stadium versus Man City. In particular, he highlighted the fantastic ability of Colwill to play out from the back.

Redknapp told Sky Sports Premier League: “To go to Manchester City, go to the Etihad you have to defend well if you’re gonna get any points whatsoever, and I picked out two of the defenders in this match Axel Disasi and Levi Colwill. Both very impressive.

“Levi Cowill seems to have found some real form at the moment. You can see with the passing accuracy, exceptional from a defender, playing it into midfield.

“But the one thing when I talk about Disasi that really sticks out is the clearances, 16. That’s the second most in the Premier League this season… And I thought he was certainly the man of the match. He was excellent, huge team performance and a massive improvement from Chelsea.”

Levi Colwill a passing machine

Colwill’s the definition of a modern day defender with his pace, versatility and ball-playing qualities.

He’s got a fantastic range of passing and a cultured left foot, so we’re not surprised to hear he ranks highly in terms of passing statistics.

BBC data records that Chelsea youngster Colwill has an eye-catching 85% passing accuracy across the season so far. He’s completed 1263 of his 1487 passes.

We’re pretty convinced that the Blues should be building their defence around him.

Journalist Ben Jacobs reported via Substack this week that Chelsea consider Colwill to be “untouchable” amid interest from Paris Saint-Germain.
