Garth Crooks included one Chelsea player in his latest installment of Premier League Team of the Week.

Chelsea’s 3-2 home win over Newcastle United last night completed another round of weekend fixtures in England’s top division.

The Blues had a few eye-catching performers in yesterday’s league victory against Newcastle, but Cole Palmer yet again stole the headlines with his individual performance.

He scored one goal and assisted another during the important win at Stamford Bridge.

BBC pundit Garth Crooks raved about Chelsea’s playmaker after his display versus Newcastle. He claims that Palmer’s been a “revelation” since last summer’s arrival from Manchester City.

Crooks wrote for BBC Sport: “This kid has been a revelation since his arrival at Stamford Bridge. It was clear that Manchester City weren’t prepared to give him the game time he thought he needed and how could they with Kevin de Bruyne, Silva, Rodri and Foden occupying the space with Jack Grealish getting the occasional game. The smart move was to leave and get the playing time his talent deserved elsewhere.

“Well he did just that and in his first season in top-flight football has scored 11 Premier League goals. It was Palmer’s strike that was cleverly diverted in to the Newcastle goal by Nicolas Jackson but there was no mistake with his superb finish that put Chelsea 2-1 up against the visitors.

“Palmer is an exceptional talent and it will be interesting to see if Gareth Southgate – who was watching the youngster perform against the Magpies – selects him in the England squad for the forthcoming internationals. I think he’s earned it.”

Speaking via Premier League productions after yesterday’s performance (10:12pm, 11 March), Michael Owen admitted that he loves watching Palmer play football.

There’s not been a lot to get excited about for Blues supporters so far this campaign, but Palmer makes you get off your seat when you watch him perform.

From day one in west London, the skilful attacker has took on the role as a talisman for this young group that so often pops up with a crucial moment. We feel like the club really hit the jackpot with his signing!

Let’s hope for another big performance from him in this weekend’s FA Cup quarter-final tie at home to Championship high flyers Leicester City.
