Mauricio Pochettino has admitted that one Chelsea player could now return to the starting side for this weekend’s EFL Cup final against Liverpool.
He said in his pre-match press conference that there is a chance Thiago Silva starts for the Blues after missing the previous game due to injury.
Silva has been relied upon heavily by Pochettino this season, however an injury suffered against Crystal Palace in the Premier League, and he had to go to the Etihad Stadium without his most experienced player.
This somehow coincided with arguably the best performance from a centre-back pairing of the season as far as Chelsea are concerned.
Levi Colwill and Axel Disasi both put in immense displays, and either player would feel very hard done by to not start the final at Wembley in two days’ time.
However, Pochettino has hinted there is a chance that Silva may have made a big enough recovery to be available for selection again.
Pochettino says Silva could start
He said: “I think we need to assess to see whether they can be involved on Sunday. Yes, I will communicate tomorrow if we recovered players from training.

“Yes, he [Thiago Silva] has the chance. Tomorrow, we will see.”
It remains to be seen if the boss disrupts last weekend’s partnership, with supporters surely hoping there are as few changes as possible made to the squad that faced City.
He also now has the returning Trevoh Chalobah to contend with, after he made his first appearance of the season off the bench last week.
