A lot of Chelsea players have underperformed this season.

It is why the club currently find themselves ninth in the Premier League table.

However, a few members of Mauricio Pochettino‘s squad have not done too badly in the current campaign.

The first name that comes to mind is obviously Cole Palmer. Nicolas Jackson has been guilty of missing a lot of chances this term, but his goal record is still decent given that he is a young player who has only just arrived in the Premier League.

In 30 appearances, the Senegal international has netted on 10 occasions.

Michael Brown tips Chelsea player to improve

Having missed all those chances in the Premier League, Jackson can obviously get much better.

And former midfielder Michael Brown is backing him to.

Prior to Chelsea’s 2-2 draw with Aston Villa last night, the BBC Sport pundit said: “I have watched Nicolas Jackson this season and he’s missed opportunity after opportunity. Then, he has scored a few goals and has been a threat.

“Against Manchester City, when the ball was spun in behind I thought ‘now I’ve seen what he is about’. That was when I realised he wants space to spin into and find good areas. I thought he was a threat all game.

“He is going to get better. I just also think a team that is not always doing too well does not help a player trying to be the focal point at the top of the pitch. There is a lot of room for improvement but we have seen some signs of the talent that is expected.”

Will Nicolas Jackson improve at Chelsea?

At just 22 years of age, he can. The only problem is if the Blues sign a new centre-forward, which looks likely.

HITC insider Graeme Bailey recently told The Chelsea Chronicle that Napoli’s Victor Osimhen is a key target for the club this summer, while they also have alternatives to the Nigerian.

Him coming in and replacing Jackson as the main No.9 could easily halt the former Villarreal player’s development.

If Jackson is still going to have a big role in this Chelsea squad next season, though, then Pochettino will need him to improve his finishing. This term, it has not been good enough and cost his side on multiple occasions.
