Chelsea look determined to strengthen their squad this summer.

The Blues have already signed Tosin Adarabioyo from west London rivals Fulham on a free transfer and will not stop there.

Chelsea are also keen on bringing Aston Villa striker Jhon Duran to Stamford Bridge.

It has been claimed that Duran is frustrated at Villa and could now move to Chelsea, with the two Premier League clubs in discussions over a potential deal.

With Ollie Watkins being Villa’s first-choice striker, the 20-year-old was only able to make three starts in the top flight last season, though he did miss some games because of injury.

Chelsea may not stop at Jhon Duran

Duran arriving at Chelsea would see Enzo Maresca have two main striker options: the Colombian and Nicolas Jackson.

Duran, though, may not be the only centre-forward to join the Blues this summer.

According to journalist Simon Phillips, it is not impossible that Chelsea sign two new No.9s in the transfer window.

On his Substack, Phillips said: “Hearing from good sources that Chelsea are looking at potentially bringing in two strikers this window but it depends on other attacker situations and potential sales.”

Should Chelsea sign two strikers?

Jackson certainly needs some cover. The Senegal international made 44 appearances in all competitions for Chelsea last season.

Duran coming in will provide that, and the Villa man should be enough.

Jackson’s goal record was not terrible, with the 22-year-old scoring 17 times across those 44 games he played in.

If Chelsea are not going to sign a clear upgrade on Jackson, keeping him as their first-choice striker then bringing in someone like Duran should be enough. Anyone else would be overkill.

Christopher Nkunku is also capable of playing up front, so at least in terms of numbers, the Frenchman, Jackson and Duran should suffice. In terms of quality and whether Jackson and Duran can get Chelsea back into the top four, that is another matter.
