Tim Sherwood has just delivered a glowing verdict on Chelsea’s Cole Palmer.

Cole Palmer, 21, has been one of the big talking points around Chelsea lately because of the way he’s walked into the starting line-up.

Despite a lack of experience, the English youngster has emerged as a talisman at Stamford Bridge in just over half a season of football.

He’s already up to 12 goals and nine assists in 28 Chelsea appearances since he joined from Manchester City last summer.

In our view, this is the most exciting debut season we’ve seen at Stamford Bridge since Eden Hazard over a decade ago.

Palmer’s been in the spotlight for his goals, flair and general aura as a 21-year-old at a new club.

Now, pundit Tim Sherwood has shed light on a different aspect of the attacker’s game. He feels like the creative playmaker is actually extremely hard working off the ball and it’s an underrated part of his package.

“He’s a good talent. I’m sure Pep [Guardiola] didn’t want to lose him, but he wanted to play game time. Credit to the boy for wanting to go to a team where he feels he’ll play every week…” Sherwood told the No Tippy Tappy Football Podcast.

“You think is he going to end up sitting on the bench there as well. Absolutely not. He’s the first name on Mauricio’s team sheet.”

Sherwood later added: “It’s finding him a position. He’s loose off the left or right. He can play anywhere. You need to be a top drawer player effecting the game to be afforded that privilege to float and play anywhere.

“I think he wants to work hard. What people don’t see, when people say he doesn’t work hard, normally what people talk about is out of possession when the opposition have got the ball, but I think he works really hard when his team [have the ball]… He works hard to try and make an angle. I think he’s quality at that.”

Cole Palmer the running machine

You’re unlikely to be a mainstay in a Mauricio Pochettino side if you don’t work hard, so we’re content Palmer is one of those individuals putting in a big shift every match.

Interestingly, Sherwood isn’t the only one to comment recently on the Chelsea talisman’s fitness.

Speaking via talkSPORT this week, Carlton Cole noted that Palmer doesn’t get tired in games and is effective until the last kick.
