Manchester City star Jeremy Doku has made some interesting comments about Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku.

Jeremy Doku and Romelu Lukaku are both at Euro 2024, representing Belgium.

It has been a mixed start to the tournament for Belgium, who have won one game and lost one, but a disappointing one for the latter.

Lukaku has already had three goals disallowed since arriving in Germany.

Doku now thinks it is impacting the 31-year-old, who was heavily criticised for his performance in Belgium’s 1-0 loss to Slovakia.

Disallowed goals impacting Romelu Lukaku

Instead of being on three goals at the European Championship, Lukaku is on zero.

Doku now thinks that his teammate is actually afraid to celebrate when he scores, fearing that the VAR is going to disallow it.

“He would have liked to have the goals because, now when he scores, I think he’s scared to celebrate,” the former Rennes man was quoted as saying by ESPN. “He didn’t have a lot of luck, but he’s happy.

“He’s happy because we won our last game. Of course, as a striker, he always wants to score and of course you think of your individual stats, it’s normal. But he’s happy with the impact that he’s having on our team and the chances he’s creating.

“If you watch the games you can see how important he is for us. He didn’t score, but he gave an assist and that’s important as well.”

Euro 2024 should not change perception of Romelu Lukaku

Lukaku’s goal record at Euro 2024 obviously does not look good right now.

However, Chelsea’s third-most expensive ever signing is still a top striker. The fact that he was able to put away those chances arguably shows that.

Last season, the centre-forward scored 21 goals in 47 appearances while out on loan at AS Roma.

One underwhelming tournament so far does not make Lukaku any worse.

Whatever the case, it still looks like Chelsea are going to struggle to offload him permanently this summer.

While Napoli are one club who are thought to be interested in the Belgium international, for example, it has been claimed that they only want to sign him on loan.

A strong end to the tournament may change their mind, but again, Lukaku has already proven himself down the years and shown he is worth a permanent fee.
