Chelsea target Victor Osimhen didn’t impress with his performance this week for Napoli in the Champions League knockout rounds.

That is according to pundit Glenn Hoddle.

Chelsea have been strongly linked in the transfer rumour mill lately with Victor Osimhen, who’s a 25-year-old striker with a glowing reputation.

He started and scored a late equaliser on Wednesday night during Napoli’s 1-1 home draw against Barcelona. It’s now 68 goals in 120 Napoli appearances in total.

However, it was a challenging nights work for him before his well-taken goal.

Glenn Hoddle wasn’t overly impressed by Osimhen’s all-round game after watching him in Europe this week. He did rate the centre-forward’s determination to stick with it and get on the scoresheet in midweek, though.

“Things weren’t going that great for him. His touch wasn’t there tonight. His pace of pass and awareness wasn’t there. But what he will do is keep going,” Hoddle told TNT Sports 2 (10:15pm, 21 February).

“Osimhen spins him (Inigo Martinez) and sticks it in the back of the net. It’s the only chance he had all night. Nothing was really created for him, he created that himself.”

Hoddle later added: “If you were going there to scout him tonight, you’d have perhaps left before he scored his goal… Because what he showed me was no not for the Premier League, not a big club anyway. But he kept persisting and he gets his goal. That’s the type of player that he is.”

CaughtOffside reported earlier this week that Chelsea are prepared to put all their efforts into trying to sign Napoli’s star centre-forward Osimhen this summer.

Meanwhile, The Evening Standard claimed the No 9’s got a £112 million release clause in his deal with the Serie A club.

Osimhen’s scored goals in Serie A, Ligue 1 and the Champions League. Could he do it in the Premier League, though?

Our wish for the next striker the club signs is they fit the profile of a clinical finisher. In fairness, Napoli’s talisman ticks that box even if some other parts of his game need some improvement.
