Chelsea’s board have reportedly already drawn up ideas for what they want to do in this summer’s transfer market to help incoming manager Enzo Maresca.

The consensus in the media is that Leicester City boss Enzo Maresca, 44, is about to become the new Chelsea head coach.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano reports via X that Chelsea have agreed to appoint Maresca as Mauricio Pochettino’s successor. There’s a real sign of faith with a long-term five-year deal that can be extended by a further year, too.

Despite guiding Leicester to promotion as Championship title winners, Maresca is expected to walk away to join the Chelsea project at Stamford Bridge. Incidentally, it will be the first time the former Manchester City and West Ham assistant has the main coaching role at a Premier League club.

Chelsea plan in the transfer window

Journalist MaxLondonsFirst reported via X on Tuesday afternoon that Chelsea aim to back Maresca by making four to five signings in this upcomning summer window.

It is explained that the Italian coach has the major backing from the club’s directors, which is why they’ll invest in several new players to help the squad.

Apparently, the long-term contract has come about to reflect the trust in the project.

What signings do Chelsea need?

The Chelsea Chronicle can think of at least a few areas that Chelsea may need to strengthen by bringing in new transfer signings for next season.

First up, the goalkeeper position, especially if it’s Maresca in the dugout. Chelsea most likely need a keeper who’s better with the ball at their feet to suit the Leicester manager, with Djordje Petrovic and Robert Sanchez a bit suspect in that area.

On top of that, the departure of veteran centre-back Thiago Silva may leave quite a gaping hole in defence.

Also, an experienced and proven striker to compete with Nicolas Jackson in the No 9 position could be a really smart buy.
