Harry Maguire has again shown why Gareth Southgate loves him so much in an England shirt.
The out-of-favour Manchester United defender is back in his comfort zone and doing what he loves – scoring goals for the Three Lions.
Maguire was all-smiles during a session at St. George’s Park, and kept the good vibes going with a rocket past Sam Johnstone.
The 30-year-old is likely to continue being trusted by Southgate, and is expected to start in Euro 2024 qualifiers against Malta and North Macedonia on June 16 and June 19.
That’s despite his impact at club level continuing to dwindle, starting only 23 out of a possible 62 games for United boss Erik ten Hag this season.
The Red Devils captain and most expensive defender of all-time has dropped below Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane in the pecking order at Old Trafford, with even left-back Luke Shaw preferred over him at centre-back on occasion this season.
But despite that, Maguire looks unlikely to leave this summer, as talkSPORT understands he has no plans to depart before his contract ends.
That may also be a blow for Southgate, who will want one of his key players to be getting regular game time.
Maguire has been doing that for England, starting all six of the nation’s games at the 2022 World Cup and following Euro 2024 qualifiers against Ukraine and Italy.
His attacking prowess has also regularly been beneficial for Southgate, with Maguire scoring seven goals in his 55 caps, the most of any defender to represent the country.
And if the training footage was anything to go buy, he hasn’t quite lost his shooting boots just yet.
