Former Chelsea manager and player Frank Lampard has been working as a pundit covering Euro 2024 so far.

As he pushes for a return to management, he has been casting an eye and giving his thoughts on a number of first team stars from Stamford Bridge.

It has been a struggle so far for many, with Romelu Lukaku in particular coming in for criticism for his performance in Belgium’s shock defeat.

While Lampard waits for a potential new job in England or abroad, he has actually been the victim of an unintentional joke from one of his colleagues, Gary Lineker, involving his hair.

The long-term BBC pundit has come out and jokingly apologised to the Chelsea legend after the clip went viral on social media.

Gary Lineker apologises to Frank Lampard

He said to The Rest is Football: “It’s gone viral. I feel bad! I did this bit and I didn’t mean it the way it came out but it’s funny and Frank is as good as gold and doesn’t mind.

We were at the end of the game and they showed one of Germany’s goals and then cut to the celebration of fans in the fan park, which is right behind our studio and behind Brandengburg gate. But there is a big screen so you can’t see all the fans from where we are.

“So we cut them up and I said that’s behind us and we could see them if it wasn’t for the big screen but they have to watch the game on that screen and otherwise they would all be looking at the back of our heads.

“I just said, it just came out, and I meant it about all of us and I just said ‘you don’t really want anyone looking at the back of your head do you Frank’. And honestly Frank is slightly thinning and I’m slightly thinning in my old age! But when it came out it came out a little bit wrong. And you know Frank does that thing where he smiles and doesn’t smile.

“I must admit when I got back to the hotel and I saw it in the hotel I thought you idiot, I am going to have to say something to Frank! I haven’t seen him since, I saw it went viral. But no, I will apologise! It wasn’t deliberate.”

It remains to be seen if a job crops up soon for Lampard at any level, however one opportunity seems to have been closed.

Graham Potter overlooked for Leicester job

Replacing Enzo Maresca at Leicester City was something that needed to be done after he was hired by Chelsea, however that role now seems to have gone to Steve Cooper.

This means that another former Blues boss in Graham Potter was also overlooked for the role, despite the fact that he was very recently seen as the favourite to take over there.
