Ray Parlour has delivered his verdict on what he thinks should happen with Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino next season.

Unlike previous Chelsea managers such as Jose Mourinho and Thomas Tuchel, it’s been a pretty tough debut year for Mauricio Pochettino in the dugout at Stamford Bridge.

Pochettino, 52, walked into the job as Blues head coach with big Tottenham connections behind him. It’s a tag that some supporters have continued to find hard to shake off.

The Argentine boss hasn’t won any silverware during his maiden year at Chelsea, but his side’s recent form means they’re up to seventh in the Premier League table and are very much still in the race for the European positions.

Ray Parlour sends Chelsea message over Mauricio Pochettino

According to Ray Parlour, Chelsea need to keep faith with Pochettino and keep him in the dugout next season.

He signed a two-year contract when he joined last summer, so will the club allow him to complete it?

“I think they’ve (Chelsea) certainly improved there is no doubt about that. It’s a young team they can only get better,” Parlour told talkSPORT.

“I think that’s the correct decision [to keep Pochettino]. Give him another year. You can’t just keep sacking managers and think everything’s going to turn around.

“What he’s shown in the last few games, I think it’s been positive. I do believe they’re going to have a much better season next year.

“They’e in good form now Chelsea and look like they’ve let the handbrake off a little bit. They’re playing some good stuff, scoring goals and been so much better to watch in the last few weeks. I’m sure every Chelsea fan would agree with that.”

Current plan at Stamford Bridge

From what reports are saying, Chelsea’s senior figures and Pochettino will sit down this summer once he season is done to discuss the future. Everyone will patiently wait to see what the outcome of this meeting will be.

Journalist David Ornstein told NBC Sports last Sunday that Chelsea do plan to review Pochettino’s position as manager once the season finishes. In addition, he added that the Blues are demanding they qualify for the Europa League this campaign.

If Chelsea finish seventh in the league, provided Manchester United don’t beat Manchester City in the FA Cup final, they’d be playing Europa Conference League football next season.
