Manchester United look more likely to sign one defender than Chelsea this summer.

Chelsea already appear to be in the market for a centre-back after allowing Thiago Silva to reach the end of his contract.

According to journalist Rudy Galetti, talks with Fulham’s Tosin Adarabioyo are going well.

Like Silva, the 26-year-old is also at the end of his existing deal, meaning that Chelsea could end up signing him for nothing this summer.

However, Adarabioyo is unlikely to be joined by another Premier League star if he does move to Stamford Bridge it seems.

Manchester United and Liverpool sniffing around central defender

With Chelsea losing Silva, the club may be keen on bringing in Adarabioyo and another centre-half.

The Daily Mail’s Sami Mokbel would be surprised if Chelsea signed one defender, though, amid interest from United and Liverpool.

Mokbel has been speaking on The Byline, and when asked about the future of Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi and whether he would be staying at Selhurst Park, the journalist replied: “No, I think Marc Guehi will leave.

“I think his contract situation will dictate that. He has two years left and a club like Palace can’t risk him going into his final year.

“I’d be surprised if Guehi ended up at Chelsea, he has other Premier League suitors, I think he has a couple of clubs in Europe as well, I expect him to move north to one of the top Premier League clubs in the north, Man United maybe, potentially Liverpool, they’re both sniffing around him.”

According to GiveMeSport, Palace value the 23-year-old at £60m.

Why Tosin Adarabioyo could make more sense for Chelsea than Marc Guehi

Even with Silva leaving, Chelsea will not be light in central defence. Enzo Maresca, who is set to take over as manager, will still have Trevoh Chalobah, Benoit Badiashile, Axel Disasi, Levi Colwill and Wesley Fofana.

Another one of those names going, such as Chalobah, would still leave Maresca with four centre-halves.

With that in mind, the Blues probably only need a cheap squad player like Adarabioyo, rather than a marquee acquisition in the form of Guehi.

That being said, Chelsea are losing a leader in Silva, while Guehi has developed into one at Palace, a club he has captained. You can see why his former club would at least consider signing him this summer.
