Jason Cundy claims nobody should be overlooking what a great performance Malo Gusto put in during Chelsea’s 1-1 draw away to Manchester City this weekend.

The Blues travelled to the Etihad Stadium on Saturday evening as big underdogs, but they’ve now drawn both Premier League meetings with Man City this season.

Raheem Sterling put Chelsea ahead in the first-half with his eighth goal of the season. Unfortunately, Rodri’s equaliser inside the final 10 minutes meant it ended in a stalemate.

We do feel this performance gives Mauricio Pochettino’s side a small psychological boost going into next weekend’s League Cup final versus Liverpool.

When delivering his instant reaction at full-time, Jason Cundy did pick out Malo Gusto as one of the Chelsea players that impressed him at the Etihad.

“This has been a brilliant display… We deserved this point. I think a fair result is a draw,” Cundy said during commentary on Chelsea’s 5th Stand App (7:25pm, 17 February).

“I’ve got to say, what a performance. Every single one of them. [Axel] Disasi, probably my man of the match. You can’t underestimate what Gusto did at right-back against Doku. Conor Gallagher as well. This is a massive point.”

Malo Gusto against Manchester City

Gusto, who’s still only 20, put in another really strong performance in Chelsea colours this evening.

It’s turning out to be a great debut season in English football for the French defender, who’s performing very consistently in the Blues starting line-up.

The £26 million right-back (Sky Sports) came out on top during a thrilling 1v1 battle with Man City winger Jeremy Doku.

Speaking via Football.London earlier this week, Chelsea boss Pochettino admitted he’s “so happy” with what he’s seeing from Gusto this season.

Our feeling now is the Blues own a quality full-back that can genuinely compete with Reece James for a starting position.
