Finishing in sixth, Chelsea did not have the season they would have hoped for.

Nevertheless, despite finishing outside of the top four, several of their players still performed exceptionally well.

Cole Palmer is obviously the standout individual from Chelsea‘s season, but there were also others who would have pleased Mauricio Pochettino.

Chelsea’s star players this season

As well as Palmer, who scored 22 goals and provided 11 assists in 33 Premier League appearances for Chelsea, Malo Gusto and Conor Gallagher impressed, too.

The right-back got a lot of game time because of the unavailability of captain Reece James, who missed a lot of matches due to injury and suspension.

Managing to record nine assists across all competitions, Gusto ensured that Chelsea retained their attacking threat down the right alongside Palmer in the absence of James.

As for Gallagher, he brought a lot to Chelsea in both attack and defence.

Joe Cole extremely impressed with Conor Gallagher

In a recent interview with talkSPORT, Chelsea legend Joe Cole hailed Gallagher as a “great player”.

It is high praise, but this season, he has certainly looked like one.

Again, Gallagher has offered Chelsea a lot in both sides of the game. The midfielder has scored a few goals, including against Manchester United, and has done so much dirty work at the same time.

His average of 2.3 tackles per game is the third highest in the Blues’ squad, according to WhoScored.

Gallagher is showing signs that he could become the complete midfielder in the near future.

Chelsea should thus be looking to keep hold of the England international. Because of his contract situation and profit and sustainability rules, though, the Blues could be forced to sell him in the upcoming transfer window.

Gallagher, who is about to enter the final year of his contract, is being linked with a move to Aston Villa. If the Chelsea academy graduate is not given a new deal, a move this summer looks likely.
