Chelsea’s player of the season from 2023/24 has found opportunities very difficult to come by at this summer’s European Championships.

Cole Palmer was one of the top performers in the Premier League last season, however is yet to start for England at Euro 2024.

This is despite a host of pundits calling for the former Manchester City man to feature far more prominently, with the squad underperforming as a whole so far.

Palmer has no doubt made an impact off the bench, and another who had hardly featured who has impressed is Kobbie Mainoo.

The duo have formed somewhat of a strong friendship off the pitch, and that may well have come into his thinking when it comes to being asked about who he thinks the best penalty taker in the squad was.

When asked by BBC Sport on TikTok who he would want to take a penalty to save his life, he took into account that Palmer is yet to miss one for club or country.

He said: “I can’t pick one. I have to say… Harry Kane or Ivan Toney. Oh there’s Cole as well! And Cole’s not missed one yet. Yeah I’ll say Cole because he’s not missed yet, so I’ll say Cole.”

There are plenty calling for Palmer to be named in the starting side when England are back in action on Saturday against Switzerland, looking for a place in the quarter-finals of the competition.

One Chelsea player who is perhaps not as high up in the pecking order when it comes to a starting place in the side is Conor Gallagher, after he began the final group game for the Three Lions.

The game was certainly not made for him though, and the impact he was able to have off the bench last time out suggested he may well have found his strongest role in the side.
