But supporters thought the news had come a day early, as a picture of a document showing the games for game week one appeared on Twitter on Wednesday.

Carried by an unknown man, what appears to be a booklet is open on the page that reads ‘Press embargo: Strictly not for release before 9:00 BST 15 June 2023’, with ‘Gameweek 1 of 36’ underneath.

The fixtures listed on the page were as follows:

  • Bournemouth vs West Ham
  • Burnley vs Man City
  • Crystal Palace vs Chelsea
  • Everton vs Brentford
  • Fulham vs Arsenal
  • Luton vs Liverpool
  • Man United vs Brighton
  • Sheffield United vs Aston Villa
  • Tottenham vs Newcastle
  • Wolves vs Nottingham Forest

Fans began to get excited as the photo did the rounds on social media, with Burnley boss Vincent Kompany set to entertain former club Manchester City, who go into the season off the back of winning an historic treble.

Meanwhile, Mauricio Pochettino looked poised to be thrown straight into a London derby against Crystal Palace in his first game in charge at Chelsea.

But other eagle-eyed fans spotted one match written on the announcement that firmly suggests it is fake.

According to the ‘document’, Luton open their campaign at home to Liverpool, but Kenilworth Road will be under construction at the start of the campaign, meaning the Hatters will have to play games away from there until the ground is Premier League ready.

That suggests it’s unlikely anyone would play Luton away from home that week.

Liverpool also want to begin the season on the road too, with redevelopment being done to their Anfield Road Stand at their home.

But don’t worry Reds fans, you’ll get to see the Hatters’ famous away end eventually.
