You could have been forgiven for thinking the story was about Liverpool’s Egyptian King following the influx of players swapping Europe for Saudi Arabia.

But it appears that Jurgen Klopp’s side will be seeing plenty more of their hero next season as he aims to fire the Reds back into the Champions League and Premier League title contention.

Liverpool fans were able to see the funny side and took to Twitter to speak of their relief that the 31-year-old was not the subject of the transfer news.

One fan wrote: “What type of playing is this?”

Another tweeted: “My heart jumped.”

A Liverpool fan added: “I was cared for a sec.”

A fourth wrote; “You nearly got me.”

Salah signed an improved deal last year that will see the forward remain at Anfield until 2025.

He netted 30 goals in 51 appearances across all competitions last season but was unable to help Liverpool to a top-four finish.

Instead, the Reds will contest the Europa League next season and Salah took to social media giving a damning assessment of Liverpool’s season.

“I’m totally devastated,” Salah wrote to his 18 million Twitter followers. “There’s absolutely no excuse for this.

“We had everything we needed to make it to next year’s Champions League and we failed. We are Liverpool and qualifying to the competition is the bare minimum.

“I am sorry but it’s too soon for an uplifting or optimistic post. We let you and ourselves down.”

Meanwhile, Salah Isn’t the only curious name snapped up by Al Adalah.

They added Karim Yoda as they look to become a force in the Saudi Pro League.
