Liverpool’s transfer kitty may not be as big as they were hoping, as news emerges that Thiago Alcantara has turned down offers from Saudi Arabia.

The Spain international has been linked with a move away from the Reds after his impact and form dropped off a cliff last season in just 18 Premier League appearances.

Jurgen Klopp has already acted fast to bolster his ageing and injury-prone midfield by bringing in Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton and Dominik Szoboszlai from Leipzig.

Keen to add more bodies in the centre of the park, Klopp’s financial support is likely to be boosted with Fabinho and Jordan Henderson the subjects of offers from the Saudi Pro League.

The sale of Fabinho to Saudi champions Al Ittihad could pocket the Reds a whopping £40million, while Henderson is edging closer to a £12m deal with Ettifaq FC.

But that £52m incoming may not get a sizable boost from Thiago, who won’t be moving to the Middle East, according to Sport in Spain.

It has earlier been claimed that Thiago has long been of interest to Turkish side Galatasaray, who are keen to buy the midfielder whose contract at Anfield expires next summer.

But with bigger offers from Saudi arriving, the 32-year-old has turned them aside, and is instead planning a return to Spain and LaLiga.

Thaigo last played in Spain for Barcelona from 2009 to 2013, winning a European treble in 2011 before joining Bayern Munich for £25m.

His father’s old team, Celta Vigo, could be of interest according to one report, with former Reds boss Rafael Benitez currently at the helm in north western Spain.
