Man City set £75million asking price to sign RB Leipzig star Josko Gvardiol – RB Leipzig will demand a fee of at least £75million to sell defender Josko Gvardiol to Manchester City, talkSPORT understands.
City boss Pep Guardiola is targeting Gvardiol along with Croatia teammate and Chelsea midfielder, Mateo Kovacic.
The current world record fee for a defender is the £80million Manchester United paid Leicester for Harry Maguire in 2019.
The 21-year-old was on Man City’s Premier League rivals’ radars earlier this year, with Chelsea and Manchester United interested in him too.
RB Leipzig manager Marco Rose claimed his defender would be staying at the club in February, insisting he was happy there.
Gvardiol was one of the standout players at the World Cup, helping Croatia to a third-place finish in Qatar.
He also headed a crucial equaliser in a 1-1 draw in the Champions League last-16 in February.
The defender has made 41 appearances for Leipzig this season, scoring three goals for them in that time.
Meanwhile talkSPORT understands Chelsea are open to selling Kovacic too, with new manager Mauricio Pochettino looking to reshape his bloated squad.
Kovacic and City are understood to have already held positive talks regarding personal terms.
