Erik ten Hag had made landing the Denmark international his No.1 centre-forward target this summer.

United have fended off competition from Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain in the race to sign the youngster.

PSG had lodged a bid earlier in the week, but Hojlund only had eyes for United.

talkSPORT understands that United and Atalanta have agreed to an initial £64m transfer, with £8m to be paid in potential add-ons.

Personal terms have already been agreed between the striker and United, with Hojlund to pen a five-year deal, with the option of a further 12 months.

The player now only needs to undergo a medical before an announcement is made.

Atalanta fuelled speculation that Hojlund was closing in on a switch to Old Trafford after he was left out of the starting XI for Saturday’s friendly against Bournemouth.

Hojlund failed to come on against the Cherries, before he was seen shaking the hands of his teammates at the full-time whistle in what appeared to be a final goodbye before departing.

Hojlund will be leaving Atalanta just one season after joining from Austrian outfit Sturm Graz.

He scored ten goals in 34 games in all competitions – with nine of his strikes coming in the Italian top-flight.

United have been busy in the transfer market so far having already signed Mason Mount from Chelsea and Andre Onana from Inter Milan.
